Iran rejects Fairford ‘terror plot’ claims

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has rejected claims by Prime Minister Andy Burnham that Tehran is linked to the recent security scare near the RAF Fairford airbase in south-western England. Araghchi responded to Burnham’s claims saying: “I can confirm Iran’s belief that releasing supposed terrorists working for foreign states really says it all. You’re barking up the wrong tree.” And the Iranian Embassy in London has also strongly denied any involvement in the incident near the RAF base and accused the UK government of peddling “Iranophobia”.

The way forward under Burnham

Comrades and friends spent the best part of the day pondering on the problems of the labour movement at the NCP Party Centre last weekend. Which way forward for the labour movement was the topic for discussion at the seminar opened by NCP National Chair Richard Bos on Sunday morning. Not an easy question to answer was the response from NCP leader Andy Brooks, who followed with a summary of the Party’s electoral policy since its foundation in 1977 and its current position of backing Labour or independent Labour candidates with mass support that was adopted in 2000 to support Ken Livingstone’s successful bid to become Mayor of London.

Brussels bound

Like St Paul, Andy Burnham is ‘all things to all men’. The Apostle was slowly making his way to Rome. Burnham, on the other hand, is on the road to Brussels and he’s clearly not sparing the horses. Those around him echo the talk of “resets” and “realignments” while Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, calls on Labour to take urgent action to rejoin the European customs union and pledge to return to the European Union without a second referendum if it wins the next election.
